About Aphes

The Associação Portuguesa de História Económica e Social aims to contribute to the progress of studies in economic and social history.

The APHES organized 37 yearly scientific conferences. The organization of these conferences is carried out by members of the association in different Portuguese universities. The yearly rotation of the responsibility for organising the annual conference reflects the diversity of the university landscape. It also promotes the development of economic and social history across the national territory.

IX Iberometrics Workshop

The IX Iberometrics Workshop is to be held in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid, Spain) on 16-17 May 2019, organised by the Economics Department of the University of Alcalá (UAH), with the collaboration of GLOCREd, and colleagues from Spanish and Portuguese institutions. Papers are invited from economic historians wishing to attend. Papers should be on any subject or period of Spanish, Portuguese or Iberian economic history, including comparative papers that consider the Portuguese and/or Spanish cases within their sample. Papers dealing with relations with the colonies will also be considered, but not if they are exclusively on the economic history of a colony or group of colonies. Papers by young scholars are especially welcome. Priority will also be given to those who have never attended before. Anyone wishing to present a paper should submit a 500-700 word abstract by no later than September 30th, 2018. Decisions regarding acceptance will be sent out no later than November 1st, 2018. Final versions of the accepted papers are expected by no later than April 15th, 2019. They will be circulated to all participants prior to the meeting and published on the workshop webpage.
