Conference paper awarded:

Jury panel report:

This thesis has as its object of analysis the political and social life of D. Pedro de Menezes, founder of the Vila Real House.
It can be considered part of the field of the History of Social Power, and it is built on the basis of the analysis of social networks, following the anglo-saxon anthropological model.
The structure of the work is built on top of the analysis on the strategies of conquest and consolidation of political power and social status used by D. Pedro de Meneses and which made it possible for him the become captain and regent of Ceuta and Count of Vila Real.
Regarding the construction of the thesis itself, it is important to highlight the global quality of the work presented, justifying the award:
- A rigorous definition of the topic, and structuring the work in relation to a well-defined investigation programme.
- Clear presentation of the methodological and theoretical models used.
- Elaboration of a state-of-the-art in the academic field on the topic of the work, as well as the integration of critical bibliography.
- The innovation in the treatment of a topic traditionally confined to Political History.

Conference papers awarded:

Ana Paula Soares Pires, "A Indústria de Moagem de Cereais. Sua Organização e Reflexos Políticos do seu Desenvolvimento durante a I República, 1899-1929"

Jury panel report:

The work by Ana Paula Soares Pires, "A Indústria de Moagem de Cereais. Sua Organização e Reflexos Políticos do seu Desenvolvimento durante a I República, 1899-1929", makes an important contribution to the knowledge of the evolution of the sector, of the policies, as well as the conflicts and alliances related to bread between the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the 30's in the XX century. The work is well presented, with the correct structure, taking care to clearly define the object of analysis and problematise it. It further benefits from the adequacy of its sources and bibliography. To the author, it must be recognised the time spent in documenting information, duly accompanied by an excellent analysis as well as interpretation. Finally, the importance of the annexes at the end of the work should be highlighted, constituting, in their own right, important research instruments.

João de Figueirôa Rêgo, "Reflexos de um Poder Discreto. Discurso Académico, Saberes e Práticas Sociais no Portugal Setecentista a Propósito dos Códices de Dom Flamínio."

Jury panel report:

The work by João de Figueirôa Rêgo, "Reflexos de um Poder Discreto. Discurso Académico, Saberes e Práticas Sociais no Portugal Setecentista a Propósito dos Códices de Dom Flamínio", has as its objective the contextualisation of genealogy knowledge and its articulation with the discourses and social mores of the XVIII century. It analysis a number of texts on genealogy by D. Flamínio, a Saint Augustine Canon.
The work is able to problematise its topic in a mature and reflective way, taking into consideration the available academic contributions, enumerating the existing gaps, without hesitating to correct or propose new interpretations in light of new found documents. A well-structured dissertation, anchored in the relevant documentation, revealing a solid knowledge of the concepts in the social history academic field. It compiles and works with new information in an innovative way, reflecting the problems that might arise from this new information, and adds something of importance to the Portuguese historiography of the topic's work.
